Salkantay to Macchu Picchu
7 days / 6 nights (T06PA8)
Located northwest of Cusco, this amazing trek runs beneath the sacred Salcantay ("Untamed") Mountain (6271 m / 20882 ft) one of the highest and most stunning in the Peruvian Andes. This beautiful trek will take you away from the crowds. We pass though Andean communities and ancient Inca sites, and at the fourth day we will meet with the classic 4 days Inca Trail to Machupicchu.
[Day 1]: Soraypampa - We pick you up at 7:00 AM from Cusco and drive for about 4 hours to reach Mollepata (a small traditional village at 2800 m) . In the afternoon we will start to ascend on foot towards Soraypampa (3100 m / 10,323 ft) along a gentile climb where we will appreciate local flora, native birds, and the Apurimac river canyon (which is one of the deepest in Peru). Here we will camp.
[Day 2]: Sisaypampa - We will depart after breakfast along an up hill trail about 2 hours until we reach the pass (4990 m / 16617 ft). We will see little groups of houses, flora, small wild birds and spectacular views of the Humantay snow peak (5902 m). After approximately six hours of walking, we will arrive at our campsite (3900 m. / 12987 ft).
[Day 3]: Paucarcancha - We start at 8:00 am to walk down for about 5 hours, passing by Pampacawana community until we reach the archeological site of Paucarcancha, near our camp site (2980 m / 9923 ft).
[Day 4]: Llullucha - Leaving our camp after breakfast we walk downhill along the Pampacahuana river following its course towards the Wayllabamba community (3800 m), where we meet the 4-day classic Inca Trail to Machu Picchcu. From here we head uphill towards Llulluchapampa, near our camp site (3680 m / 12254 ft).
