Huaran Cuncany Lares
4 days / 3 nights (T04PA5)
Lares is a very well known region and offers an insight into the real lives of the Andean people. You’ll have the opportunity to see thatched stone houses surrounded by herds of Llamas, Alpacas and Guinea pigs. We'll see small communities practicing their local traditional customs and farming techniques. There are two passes over 4000m surrounded by snow capped mountains.
[Day 1]: - We leave Cusco at 7:30 AM To travel towards Huaran village (2880 m). After driving for about 1 hour we will arrive at the start point. We mount a horse and travel north-east in a gentle climb. After 1 hour we are at Saywapata, and 1 hour after that we arrive at Minaspata. Then 3 more hours of walking up, we arrive to Yuraq Qocha lake (3950 m. / 13,154ft), where we make camp.
[Day 2]: - Our trail goes up-hill for 2 hours, towards the pass called Pachacute (4450 m. / 14,820 ft). From the pass we will see the majestic snow peaks of Sawasiray, Pitusiray, Cunturqaqa, Pachacute, etc surrounding us. Then we continue down-hill enjoying the panoramic landscape of white mountains, lakes and waterfalls arriving at Quiswarany community (3625 m. / 12,071 ft) and spending the night there.
[Day 3]: - Our destination follows the sunrise 3 hours on a gently climbing trail passing by Warwaqasa pass (4175 m). After 2 more hours down, we will arrive at the native community of Cuncany (3950 m. / 13,154 ft). In the afternoon we will have a cultural exchange with the natives and camp here.
[Day 4]: - We say goodbye to the community after breakfast, and following the course of Wacawasy river, we walk for 3 hours towards Lares villages (3060 m. / 10,190 ft). We will enjoy a soak in the medicinal thermal springs. Then we will take our bus to Cusco (about 4 hours).
