Moray - Huchuyqosqo on Horseback
4 days / 3 nights (T03PA2)
This hike ranges in altitude from 2,800 and 3,400 m. (11,325 ft). On this trip we will see small villages and a variety of flora from the region. We experience archeological sites like Moray, Chinchero, HuchuyQosqo, Tambomachay and Pucapucara, with the trail passing by lagoons and native Andean people. The Andean ridge is the principal mountain range in the American continent and the biggest in the world: From Peru it covers 9,500 km^2 to Venezuela and 1,000,000 km^2 to the south to Patagonia. We will also see the Apu Salkantay (20,950 ft).
[Day 1]: Moray - Chinchero - We leave Cusco at 7:30 am traveling by bus for about 1 hour until Pachar, where we meet with our horseman. Now we start on horseback ascending towards Moray and continuing to the traditional village of Maras. Finally, we arrive at the camp site of Chinchero (3400m).
[Day 2]: Huchuyqosqo - We will visit the archeological site of Chinchero, then continue through the different communities observing native people with their typical daily activities. In the afternoon we arrive at Huchuyqosqo archeological site to camp (3100m).
[Day 3]: Tambomachay - After breakfast, we go towards Qoriqocha pass (3600 m.), enjoying the spectacular view of the surrounding area. After 7 hours ' travel we arrive at Tambomachay where we camp (3390m).
[Day 4]: Saqsaywaman - We start at about 8:00 am, visiting the archeological sites of Tambomachay and Pucapucara to continue towards Qusilluchayoc, where we have lunch. Then we go to visit Qenqo and Saqsaywaman, finally reaching Cusco.
