9 days / 8 nights (P09PA3)
Marvel at Machu Picchu and wander through village markets where ancient traditions live on in the hearts of the Andean people. We will visit the most important Inca cities of Saqsay waman, Pisaq and Ollantaytambo. We will go to the Sacred Valley. On this tour we will explore the "Witches Market" in Cusco and bargain over tapestries in Pisaq. This is an easy paced week long journey perfect for anyone with a sense of curiosity and adventure.
[Day 1]: Arrive in Lima - Check in to your hotel.
[Day 2]: Fly to Cusco - We will meet you when you arrive in the airport and transfer you to your hotel in the core of the old Inca Empire (3,345 m. /11,150 ft). You will have the morning free to do as you wish. In the afternoon we will tour the city and visit the Sun Temple. We will go to the nearby archeological sites of Saqsaywaman, Qenqo and Tambomachay. We will return to the hotel in Cusco at approximately 6:30 pm.
[Day 3]: Andawaylilas – Tipom - We depart the hotel around 7:00 am and drive towards Urcos to visit the colorful market and experience the traditional trading of goods. Next up is the colonial church of Andawaylilas and then driving for 30 min. to arrive at the Pikillaqta complex. Our next destination is Tipon; famed for its Inca water fountains. Later in the afternoon we will drive back to Cusco.
[Day 4]: Moray - Salineras – Ollantaytambo - We will drive towards the traditional village of Maras, then continue to the Inca experimental agricultural village of Moray. After lunch we return driving to get close to the salt mine. We will then walk down approximately 30 min. to see the salt mine pools. We will walk one hour more to the Sacred Valley. We will then meet our bus to go to the fortress of Ollantaytambo. We will overnight in the Sacred Valley. Box lunch is included.
[Day 5]: Machu Picchu - After breakfast we travel by train for 2 hours to Aguas Calientes. We will then take the bus for approximately 25 min. to the archeological pinnacle of the lost city of the Incas, Machu Picchu. We will tour the city for 2 hours. In the afternoon, we have free time and then return to Aguas Calientes and overnight at the hotel.
[Day 6]: Machu Picchu - Sacred Valley - Early in the morning we will leave by train to visit the Inca site of Ollantaytambo. We will then continue by bus to explore the archeological site and the traditional artesan market in the city of Pisaq. We will then drive back to Cusco.
[Day 7]: Exploring Cusco - Wander the puma city and the heart of the Inca empire's cobbled narrow streets and experience the lives of the people of Inca descent.
[Day 8]: Fly to Lima - Check in to your hotel.
[Day 9]: Return to Airport - Fly home from Lima.
